WEST POINT, N.Y. – Lamar University continued its strong play in the Empire State winning three of its first four matches after a 4-1 victory over Bryant Monday afternoon. The victory moves Lamar to .500 on the season (9-9).
Lamar took the doubles point for the opening lead of the match and it was a hard-earned point. After splitting the first two matches, the two teams were headed to a tiebreaker at No.1. The team of
Maxwell Lindstedt and
Leon Nickel proved to be too much in the end defeating Bryant's Will Pellegrini and Myles Peterson, 7-6 (8-6).
With the lead in hand, the Cardinals had no plans of allowing the Bulldogs back into the contest. Lamar extended the lead to 3-0 after wins at Nos. 3 (Lindstedt) and 6 (
Stefano Chappuis) singles.
Bryant eventually got on the scoreboard at No. 1 singles, but the Cardinals slammed the door shut for good with freshman
Vicente Monge's three-set victory over George Howard at the No. 4 spot, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0.
The Cardinals will close out their northeast trip with a match at NJIT Tuesday at 2 p.m.
