Cardinals to compete at Louisiana Classics

BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar University men's golf made history at the Golden Nugget Invitational last week, capturing first place in a field of 10 teams.

The Cardinals return to action Monday-Tuesday (March 9-10) at the Louisiana Classics, hosted at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette.

Day 1 features an 8 a.m. shotgun start while the final round begins at 7:30 a.m.

ESPN+ will broadcast the final round with coverage starting at 9 a.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT

LU set a program record with a 54-hole score of 823 (274-271-278), shattering the previous mark of 825 set in 2007 at the Southland Conference championship.

The Cardinals posted 14 rounds of par or better, with five players finishing inside the top 20. LU led the field with 89 birdies, securing its first spring tournament win since March 2016.

Bramford, Woodham, Bennet and Widepalm each recorded a season-best 54-hole score.

Competing as an individual, Truls Andersson posted a season-low 230 (78-76-76).

Four Cardinals recorded their best finishes of the season.

LEADING THE WAY

Schneider lowered his season stroke average to 71.0 through 21 rounds and leads the team with 15 rounds of par or better.

He also carries a team-best spring scoring average of 71.4 and has logged three top 10 finishes.

Bennet recorded the lowest round by a Cardinal this season with a 64 in the second round at the Golden Nugget.

Woodham ranks second on the team with a 72.0 scoring average and 12 rounds of par or better.

Bramford is third at 72.9, with nine rounds of par or better.

The Cardinals hold a collective team scoring average of 73.6.

LOUISIANA CLASSICS

This year marks the 41st edition of the Louisiana Classics and Lamar's first appearance in the tournament since 2007.

The field includes 16 teams: Illinois State, Michigan, UL Lafayette, Sam Houston, Middle Tennessee, Southern Illinois, Arkansas–Little Rock, Texas State, New Mexico State, North Texas, Oral Roberts, East Tennessee State, Louisiana Tech, Texas A&M, Lamar and South Alabama.

Oakbourne Country Club is a par 72, 6,898-yard course ranked third in Louisiana by Golf Digest.
