BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University men's tennis team will step on the court for the first time in nearly two weeks when it hosts Dillard University in a doubleheader. After a tough start to the season that saw LU play five consecutive road matches – including three against top-25 opponents – the Cardinals enter the weekend having won three of the past four.
Of the Cardinals three wins during the current stretch, two have been shutouts. Lamar is outscoring its opponents 14-4 during its last three matches.
Dillard makes its way to Beaumont with an 0-1 record dropping a season opener at New Orleans, 5-2. That match was played on Feb. 2, but the Bleu Devils have not played since. Saturday's contests will mark the fourth and fifth all-time meeting in series history. Lamar holds a perfect 3-0 record in the previous meetings. The Cardinals swept a doubleheader against Dillard last season winning both matches by a combined 10-2 score. The only other meeting came during the 1997 season.
The first match of the doubleheader is set for a 10 a.m. start followed by the second at 2 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
