BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University will make its second trip to the Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse Friday to participate at Houston's Robert Platt Invitational. The two-day even will run through Saturday, Jan. 31st.
Last week, LU competed at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational hosted by New Mexico.
Luke Parker earned two bronzes in the men's 600-meters (1:18.12), which he was the fastest collegiate athlete in the event, and in the 800m (1:51.82), where he was one second off first place. There were two school records broken as
John Sanderson broke the men's 60m hurdles mark at 7.95 to finish sixth place, while
Cameron Chin smashed a 33-year school record in the men's 400m. Chin took fourth in the event with a time of 46.31.
LU will be one of 19 schools competing in the meet along with UH, Alcorn State, Community Christian College, Grambling, Houston Christian, Hutson-Tillotson, UIW, Jacksonville College, Rice, Sam Houston, Southern, St. Thomas (Texas), Stephen F. Austin, Tarleton State, TCU, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Southern, Texas Wesleyan, UT Arlington and UT Rio Grande Valley.
The meet will begin Friday at 11 a.m., with the combined events, while the field (1 p.m.) and track events (4 p.m.) will follow suit. The second day will commence at 10:30 a.m.
