BEAUMONT, Texas - Former Lamar Cardinal legend
Sabria Dean (2020-25) has signed a contract to play basketball overseas. She will join Esteghial F.C. of the Iranian Women's Basketball Premier League, which is the highest level of national basketball competition in Iran.
Dean ended her collegiate career as one of the most decorated Cardinals in program history. She finished as the second all-time leading scorer (1,774 points) and set school records in games played (145) and consecutive games started (135). The Mineola, Texas, native was also the second player to achieve 1,500 points, 300 assists, and 200 steals. A Southland Conference Freshman of the Year recipient, Dean was a two-time first-team all-conference player who helped the Cardinals put up three straight 20-win seasons, back-to-back trips to the SLC Tournament championship game, an SLC regular season title in 2024, and a berth in the first-ever Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament.
"We are incredibly proud of
Sabria Dean and the work she has put in to reach this milestone," said head coach
Aqua Franklin. "Her journey is a testament to her perseverance, dedication, and love for the game. Watching her sign a professional contract is not only exciting for her future, but also inspiring for our current and future players."
In her five-year career as a Cardinal, Dean helped LU to a 90-56 overall record.
