BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University is set to open a new season on the road as the Cardinals travel south to Corpus Christi, Texas to compete in the Jack Frederick Memorial Islander Invitational Friday. The individual-format tournament will run through Friday.
Competition is set to begin Friday with doubles matches beginning at 9 a.m. followed by singles matches at 10. Fans can follow along with the updated brackets by clicking

The tournament field will consist of Houston, Texas A&M-Kingsville and UTSA to go along with Southland foes A&M-Corpus Christi and UIW.

David Wong returns a veteran-laded roster that consists of five returning letterwinners and four newcomers. The letterwinners consist of juniors
Martina Alcaino and
Savannah Bijlsma, sophomores
Arina Gudovskaya,
Asta Miettinen and
Luana Paiva. That group will be joined by freshmen
Eva Gumenyuk,
Kate Labenski,
Varvara Popadina and
Lera Zaginayko.
The season-opening tournament is the first of five fall tournaments for the Red and White.
