Neelie Schiel all competed on the second day of the NCAA West Regionals Thursday at Texas A&M. Unfortunately, Lamar's quintet failed to advance in their respective events.
Early on, Bogliolo and Schiel placed in the top 40 of the women's javelin. Bogliolo (Nice, France) claimed 25th place with her mark of 46.22m (151-8) while Schiel was 38th at 43.78m (143-8). Bogliolo ends her senior year with five top five finishes, including three seconds and a silver medal at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships. As for Schiel, the junior transfer posted five top threes, which included an SLC gold medal after she broke LU's javelin record of 154 feet.
Johnson participated in both the 100-meter hurdles (29th), placing in the top 30 with a personal best 13.45, and the long jump (5.65m; 18-5.25), finishing 46th overall. In what has been her finest season, the Zachary, La. native won four gold medals at both conference meets. Her three golds in the indoor portions helped earn her SLC Indoor Women's Athlete of the Year, Women's Outstanding Field Events Performer and Indoor Women's MVP honors. In addition, she broke the school's triple jump mark (12.95m; 42-5.75) at the J. Fred Duckett Invitational.
Annabel Hobday ran in the second heat of the women's 1,500-meter race and clocked in at 4:31.22 to place her 43rd. The Surrey, England native completed her senior season having compiled nine top 10 finishes, including three wins. Hobday achieved two medals at the conference indoor meet, with a bronze in the mile and a gold as part of the distance medley relay. She also established a 1,500m meet record at the Texas A&M Alumni Muster Invitational.
Nia Clatworthy did run in the women's 10,000-meters, but was unable to finish after completing 14 of the 25 laps. In her final season at LU, the Porthcawl, Wales native competed in two other meets, including the Bryan Clay Invitational, where she broke the conference 10,000-meter record (33:12.54) and ranked 19th nationally. She finishes her career with five gold medals, two silvers, and a bronze while earning eight all-conference honors and two SLC Runner of the Week awards.
Elijah Jackson will be the final athlete to compete in the regionals as he will set his sights on the men's high jump Friday. The event will start at 3:30 p.m.
