Cardinals Fall in Match that Comes Right Down to the Wire

| By:
Box Score BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University dropped a heartbreaking 5-2 decision against New Orleans Saturday afternoon at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. The overall match came down to the final two singles matches which were both headed to a third set that would have flipped the outcome but the Privateers managed to hold on both courts.

After dropping the doubles point, the Cardinals battled back with opening-set wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 5 singles, and freshman Louis Drapeau battled back from an opening-set loss to force a third set.

Lamar tied the overall match at 1-1 following senior Haruki Omori-Cowie's impressive victory at No. 2 singles. Omori-Cowie made quick work of Matthew Armbruster, 6-1, 6-1. Unfortunately, the Privateers responded with consecutive wins at 3 and 4 singles before the Red and White mounted a comeback.

Sophomore Stefano Chappuis outbattled UNO's Joseph Townes, 6-4, 6-2, placing all eyes on the two remaining courts – No. 1 and 6 singles. Both courts were headed to a third set. Unfortunately, the Privateers managed to hold on to take both courts for the final score.

The Cardinals return to action Monday when they host Nicholls for Senior Day. The final regular-season match of the 2025 campaign is set for a 2 p.m. start from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
