Cardinals Close 2024-25 With Two at Home

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University men's tennis team returns home for the final two home matches of the 2024-25 regular season. The Cardinals enter the two-match homestand with two goals – first, to send their seniors out on a winning note and second, secure and improve their spot in the Southland Conference Championships coming up in two weeks in Thibodaux, La.

The Cardinals are 13-11 (.542) on the season but the schedule makers were unkind to Big Red having them open conference play on the road for three straight. The Cardinals (0-3 SLC) dropped their first two matches by narrow one-point margins. Despite the 0-3 start, the Cardinals can still climb to the No. 3 seed if they can close the year with consecutive wins and get a little help from Nicholls (when they face UIW on Friday).

The Cardinals sit just one win back of New Orleans and the league's other Cardinals with two matches to play. The Privateers are 9-6 (.600) overall and 1-2 (.333) in Southland matches. UNO has won consecutive matches as they head to Beaumont. The two teams have faced each other 32 times with each team winning 16 matches but the Cardinals are 9-4 (.643) in matches played in the Golden Triangle.

Saturday's match against UNO is set for a 10 a.m. start from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.

Following Saturday's match, the Cardinals return to the court Monday to take on Nicholls. The Colonels (11-8/0-5 SLC) have struggled in conference play but enter the final week of the regular season playing their best tennis of the year. Nicholls has rattled off five-straight wins defeating their opponents, 21-4, during that stretch.

Big Red holds a 14-12 (.538) all-time record against Nicholls but has actually struggled at home. LU is one win under .500 (4-5) all-time in Beaumont against the Colonels. Monday match is set for a 2 p.m. start from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
