BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University men's tennis team had a successful road trip last week winning two of three matches through the state of Arkansas. The Cardinals return home with a 4-3 (.571) overall as they prepare to face Southern Friday.
 
The Cardinals enter the week winners in four of their last five with the lone set back during that time coming at the University of Arkansas.
 
It has been a tough start to the season for the Southern Jaguars. Southern enters the Friday afternoon showdown with an 0-3 record and is still looking for its first point of the season dropping three-straight shutouts. The primary reason for the record has been the tough schedule the Jaguars have faced. They have traveled to LSU, Tulane and South Alabama. Southern enters the season looking to build upon a one-win season a year ago.
 
Friday's match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center. The contest kicks off a stretch of three of the next four that will be played in Beaumont for the Red and White.
