BEAUMONT, Texas – While the Lamar University men's tennis team is on the road for matches Saturday and Sunday, the Cardinals will remain within the Lone Star State. The Cardinals (7-4) will face two tough match ups first in Abilene Christian Saturday (10 a.m.) and followed by a trip Sunday to College Station, Texas to take on No. 9 Texas A&M (6 p.m.).
A former conference rival, ACU is playing its best tennis of the season entering the weekend having rattled off six consecutive wins after starting the year 0-4. The Wildcats have outscored their last four opponents, 26-2.
The Cardinals hold a slim one-win advantage in the all-time series, 14-13 (.519), but are a win under .500 (4-5) in Abilene. ACU has won consecutive matches and three of the last four. The Cardinals head to Abilene looking for their second road win in the series since 2023.
Big Red will make the trip to College Station the following day to face the Aggies. Texas A&M is 5-3 on the young season with four wins over nationally ranked teams, including one top 10 team. The Aggies will face LSU and No. 15 Florida State before hosting Lamar.
The series between Lamar and A&M dates back to the 1968 season but the Aggies hold a 26-2 advantage. The Cardinals will step on the court looking for their first series win since 1976 as well as the first in College Station.
The Cardinals will be back in Beaumont Friday, Feb. 28
th to take on Oral Roberts. The match against the Golden Eagles is set for 1 p.m.
