Men's golf set to compete at Border Olympics

BEAUMONT, Texas — After a week off from competition, the Lamar University men's golf team returns to the course for the two-day Border Olympics at the Laredo Country Club Monday-Tuesday.
 
Hosted by the University of Houston, the Border Olympics is the longest running collegiate tournament in the country since it began in 1952.
 
The tournament features Illinois State, Michigan, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Rice, Houston Christian, Houston, New Mexico State, Troy, Lipscomb, University of Louisiana Monroe, UTRGV, Miami (Ohio), Sam Houston State and Wright State.
 
Laredo Country Club is an 18-hole, par 72, 7,125-yard private course.

LAST TIME OUT
 
The Cardinals finished 13th at the three-day Vaqueros Invitational in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
 
Lamar University finished with a total score of 919 (313-298-308), seven shots outside of placing in the top 10.
 
David Schneider Jerez tied for 23rd after carding a total score of 224 (76-75-73).
 
BORDER OLYMPICS
 
This is the ninth straight year that Lamar University is competing in the Border Olympics.
 
The Cardinals had a third-place finish in 2022, their best finish at the tournament. Hugo Hellman highlighted the competition by finishing third after tallying the scores of 68-70-74 (212).
 
Last spring, Lamar University tied for 14th as Carl Hardin finished tied for 26th.
