BEAUMONT, Texas – Winners in five of their last six matches, the Lamar University men's tennis team looks to stay hot when they travel to Houston Friday to kick off a stretch of three matches in three days. The Cardinals will take on Rice Friday at 4 p.m. and then will return home to face Collin College in a doubleheader beginning Sunday. The first match of the doubleheader will start at 10 a.m. followed by the second at 2 p.m.
The Cardinals are coming off a shutout victory over Southern a week ago but head to Houston looking to put a stop to a seven-match slide to the Owls.
While the Cardinals are riding a bit of a hot streak, the Owls have dropped three of their past four matches with the lone victory during that time being a one-point win over LSU last time out. The Cardinals enter the series looking for their first win against the Owls in Houston and the fourth all-time win over Rice. If LU can grab the win, it would be the program's first over the Owls since the 2016 season.
Lamar will be back in Beaumont Sunday to face Collin College in a doubleheader. The Cougars had a tough start to season dropping consecutive shutouts before bouncing back with a 6-1 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State last time out. Sunday's match will mark the first meeting between Lamar and the Cougars. Both matches are slated to take place at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
