HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Lamar University's
Martina Alcaino (junior) and
Lera Zaginayko (freshman) got the second tournament of the 2025 fall season off to a strong start after picking up a victory on the opening day of the Sam Houston Invitational.
The Cardinal duo squared off against Northwestern State's Lolita Hukasian and Zoi Spyrou and dominated from the opening serve. Alcaino and Zaginayko surged to an early lead and never looked back posting a 6-2 victory.
The Cardinals return for the second of action Saturday morning. Lamar is joined in the tournament Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston and NSU.
