BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University men's tennis team returns to action Saturday hosting Alcorn State in a doubleheader from the Thompson Family Tennis Center. Warmer temperatures are expected for the morning/afternoon doubleheader as LU will open the home portion of its schedule against the Braves. The first match Saturday is slated for a 10 a.m. start followed by the afternoon match at 2 p.m.
 
The Cardinals are 0-2 on the season but could not have opened their season against tougher competition. Two weeks ago, the Cardinals traveled to Austin, Texas to take on the No. 1-ranked Longhorns followed by a match at Baylor. The Cardinals did record a singles win against the Longhorns.
 
Saturday will serve as the season opener for Alcorn who is looking to build from a 6-18 (.250) record last season and a fourth-place finish in the SWAC standings. The Braves advanced to the semifinals of the SWAC Championships last season before the season came to an end against the top overall seed.
 
The Cardinals enter the weekend looking to maintain a perfect streak against Alcorn. Lamar is 28-0 all-time against the Braves in a series that dates back to the 2001 season.
 
Following Saturday's doubleheader, the Cardinals will once again hit the road for four of their next five.
