BEAUMONT, Texas -
Sabria Dean has been named Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week announced league officials Monday afternoon. The honor comes after Dean led Lamar to two big wins to remain undefeated in conference play. This marks the second weekly award for the Cardinals this season and is the fourth time Dean has received the honor.
Â
Last week, the Mineola native averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while knocking down 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the field and 66.7 (10-of-15) from behind the three-point arc. Thursday saw Dean go off for a season-high 24 points, including 18 in the first half and knocking down six threes as the Cardinals won 94-52 over New Orleans. She followed that up by contributing to a 77-74 victory over Stephen F. Austin with 19 points including four three-pointers. As the all-time leader in games played with 130, Dean needs one more steal to join Kalis Loyd as the only Cardinal players with 1,500 points, 300 assists and 200 steals.
Â
Dean and the Cardinals will hit the road for a pair of games this week starting Thursday at Nicholls in Thibodaux, La. That game is scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m.
