FRISCO, Texas – The Lamar University men's tennis team got hot late in the season and rallied the to the No 4 overall seed entering the 2024 Southland Conference Men's Tennis Championships. The Cardinals posted a 10-11 (.476) overall record and went 2-2 (.500) in conference play.
Lamar got hot down the stretch taking three straight and four of their final five matches with the lone setback during that stretch being a one-point loss to eventual regular-season champion UIW.
The Cardinals will face fifth-seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Thursday at 2 p.m. in the opening round of the championships. The Islanders went 15-7 (.682) on the season and tied LU in the standings with a 4-4 record, but the Cardinals earned the tiebreak after beating the Islanders in head-to-head competition – the first victory for Lamar in Corpus Christi in program history.
Thursday's match is slated for a 2 p.m. start from the McFarlin Tennis Center in San Antonio, Texas. If the Cardinals get past A&M-Corpus Christi they will face top-seeded UIW.
