HUMBLE, Texas - Lamar University's men's golf team began the All-American Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Houston and Rice University at the Golf Club of Houston on Monday. After a solid first round in which they shot 294 and had a few golfers in the top 10, Big Red struggled in the second round shooting 299 to be sitting in a tie for ninth alongside Baylor University with 593 strokes.
Both
Carl Hardin and
Nathan Woodham posted even-par 72's in the first round. Hardin is tied for 17th after his second round 74 sees him with 146 while Woodham is tied for 26th following a 76 to put him two strokes behind.
Guillermo Estivill sits tied for 47th with 151 (74-77) while
Jacob Lindh (76-77) is tied for 64th with 153 along with
David Schneider Jerez, who went from 81 in the first round to 72 in the second round.
In the team competition, Sam Houston has a four stroke lead on both UNLV and TTU. But UNLV's Yuki Moriyama currently leads by one over SHSU's Bret Gray and Yale's Ben Carpenter going into the last round.
Meanwhile, on the individual side of the competition,
Rory Bennet is tied for fifth with 146 (74-72) to be two strokes behind the leaders of Texas Tech's Zach Wiedemeyer and Charlie Delong and Zach Heffernan of BU. In his first competition this season,
Truls Andersson is tied for 26th after rounds of 76 and 81 put him with 157.
Tuesday will be the tournament finale as LU is paired up with BU, Southern Mississippi, and Iowa State.
