Cardinals Defeat North Dakota

| By:
Box Score BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University used dominant singles play at the top half of their singles lineup to overwhelm North Dakota, 6-1, Tuesday in Beaumont. The victory completed a men's and women's tennis sweep of UND as the two matches followed a similar pattern.

After taking the doubles point, the Cardinals hit the reset button in the transition to singles. Junior Martin Garcia-Ripoll got things started with his victory at the No. 1 spot. Garcia-Ripoll defeated UND's Ange-Kevin Koua, 6-1, 6-4.

Garcia-Ripoll's victory started a run of four consecutive straight-set victories as he was followed up by wins from Max Amling (No. 2 singles), Leon Nickel (No. 3 singles) and Joan Crespo (No. 6).

The Fighting Hawks got back on the board with a victory at No. 5 singles but it was too little too late as Lamar had already secured the clinching fourth point. The Cardinals closed out the scoring by taking the final match at No. 4 singles with Brandon Do's straight-sets victory.

Lamar returns to action Friday, Mar. 29th when they open Southland Conference play against Nicholls. The match is slated for an 11 a.m. start from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
