Men’s Tennis Heads North to Face Oral Roberts, Arkansas

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – After an off week, the Lamar University men's tennis team will travel to north for two matches, with the first stop coming in Tulsa, Okla., to face Oral Roberts (Friday at 11 a.m.) followed by a match against the Arkansas Razorbacks the following day (3 p.m.).

The Cardinals (3-6) enter the weekend matchups looking to put consecutive wins on the schedule, coming off a shutout victory over Southern. Friday's match will kick off a stretch that will have the Cardinals on the road for four of the next five.

The Golden Eagles are 0-4 on the season but have faced a very tough schedule with losses at Tulsa, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and a home setback to Arkansas. ORU was also slated to play in the HEB Tournament of Champions hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi but the tournament was cancelled due to weather.

The Cardinals lead the all-time series against ORU, one that dates back to the 1972 season. Big Red is 13-4 (.765) all-time and has won four consecutive matches against the Golden Eagles. Lamar has also seen a great deal of success on the road in the series recording a 5-1 (.833) record in Tulsa.

Arkansas is 9-3 (.750) on the season and has won three straight and five of the previous seven matches. In the last three wins – including one over No. 61 Tulsa – Arkansas has outscored opponents by 15-1 margin.

Saturday marks the sixth time the two schools have met, a series which originated during the 1968 season. The Razorbacks hold a 4-1 record with the lone Cardinal victory in the series coming during the first meeting.

The Cardinals will be back home Friday, Mar. 1, when they host Abilene Christian. The match against the Wildcats will be the second meeting between the two schools all-time.
