BEAUMONT, Texas – After four tough matches on the road to open the year, the Lamar University Cardinals will kick off the home portion of its schedule Saturday with a doubleheader against Alcorn State. The first match is slated for a 10 a.m. start followed by a 2 p.m. match in the afternoon.
It has been a tough start to the 2024 spring season for the Red and White. The Cardinals opened the year with matches at No. 3 Texas and No. 25 Baylor before traveling to UT Rio Grande Valley and Rice.
Stepping foot on the refurbished courts at the Thompson Family Tennis Center will be a welcomed sight for the Cardinals who have turned their home facility into one of the toughest places to play in the Southland Conference. Over the course of the past three seasons, LU has won better than 65 percent of their matches in front of their own fans.
While Saturday's match will be the fifth match of the season for LU, Saturday's opponent – Alcorn State – will be playing in just its second match of the year. The Braves are slated to kick of their 2024 season Thursday afternoon against St. Louis before making the trek to Beaumont.
Saturday's doubleheader is free admission to the public.
