BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University added three transfers and signed one prep standout announced head coach
Alvin Brooks Wednesday afternoon. The current class includes Ja'Sean Jackson (6-0, G, Abilene Christian), B.B. Knight (6-6, G, Tulsa), Aleksa Lekic (6-10, C, Montenegro) and Errol White (6-7, F, Eastern New Mexico).
The newest additions to the roster bring the Cardinals' 2022-23 signing class to five –
Jayden Barrs (6-1, 190, G, Manor, Texas) signed with LU in November.
The Cardinals incoming class bring balance, experience and a wide array of skills which include three guards (Barrs, Jackson and Knight), one forward (White) and one center (Lekic). The newest signees compliment a Cardinal roster which return eight letterwinners who recorded starting experience at some point during the 2022-23 season and totaled 95 games of game action.
"We are very excited about this signing class," said Brooks. "Three of the four come here already with college experience, while Aleksa comes to us with international experience. This is a talented group we have added to the roster."
Among the three transfers, Knight will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Cardinals. All three have recorded collegiate starting experience before arriving in Beaumont.
Jackson played in 66 games for Abilene Christian and scored nearly 200 points in his two seasons with the Wildcats. A highly-touted prospect coming out of high school, Jackson was an all-state selection who received San Antonio Express News Player of the Year honors following a year where he guided his prep squad to a state championship.
Knight played in 30 games earning 12 starts in his lone season with the Golden Hurricane. He scored 73 points while averaging 14 minutes per game as a rookie, which followed a prep career that saw Knight score more than 1,100 points and knock down a school-record 247 three-pointers.
White comes to LU after an all-conference season at Eastern New Mexico. One of the top defensive players in the Lone Star Conference, White averaged nearly a double-double per game for ENMU scoring 10.6 points and pulling down nearly 9.0 rebounds per contest. White also ranked among the league leaders in steals, while shooting 54 percent from the field.
Lekic marks the second player – standing 6-10 – from Montenegro that Brooks has brought to Beaumont in as many seasons. The athletic center comes to the Golden Triangle after a highly successful run with his junior national team. Guiding his squad to five Montenegro National Youth tournaments, Lekic averaged better than 7.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game during the U18 European National Championships.
