BEAUMONT, Texas – After a two-week break from competition, the Lamar University men's tennis team (8-8) returns to action Sunday to open Southland Conference play at Nicholls. The match is set for an 11 a.m. start from Thibodaux, La.
The off week for the Cardinals couldn't have come at a better time after dropping three of their last five matches, but it was a tough five-match stretch that saw contests against Southern Mississippi, Rice, Texas A&M, Abilene Christian and UT Arlington.
Nicholls enters Sunday's contest a match under .500 (6-7) on the season, but a match over .500 (4-3) at home. The Colonels have split their last four matches recording wins over Prairie View A&M and NJIT while falling to New Orleans and nationally ranked Tulane.
The Cardinals lead the all-time series over Nicholls, 13-11, which dates back to the 1978 season. LU has won consecutive matches in the series and nine of the last 11. The last setback for the Red and White in the series came during the 2019 season (in Thibodaux). Big Red has recorded a great deal of success in Thibodaux posting a 6-3 (.667) all-time mark on the road in the series.
