Cardinals, Golden Eagles Set to Square Off in Beaumont

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Winners in three of the previous four matches, the Lamar University men's tennis will look to get back in the win column Monday when it hosts Southern Mississippi. The Cardinals had rattled off three straight before a setback at LSU.

Big Red has had eight days to get ready for Monday's match after a busy weekend that saw LU play three matches in less than three days. The contest for LU begins a brief two-match homestand before the Red and White hits the road for four straight – a string that will carry over into to the start of Southland Conference play.

Southern Miss is 3-3 on the year, and looking to breakout of a stretch that has seen them rotate wins and losses. The Golden Eagles are coming off a tough one-point loss against Samford, 4-3, in Hattiesburg.

The all-time series, which dates back to the 2011 season, has been a fairly evenly matched one with Southern Miss holding a slim 6-4 (.600) advantage, but LU has won three of the previous four matchups including a 4-3 victory last season in Hattiesburg. Ironically, the away team has had the upper hand in the series with LU posting a 3-2 (.600) record on the road and the Golden Eagles holding a 3-1 mark in Beaumont.

The match against the Golden Eagles will begin at 11 a.m. from the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Complex. Following the match against Southern Miss, the Cardinals will host Rice Saturday morning. That match will also take place at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Complex.
