HOUSTON, Texas - Lamar University's track and field teams took part in the J. Fred Duckett Invitational hosted by Rice University. In total, LU won three events, all coming from the men's side while a program record was shattered in the 800 meters.
Kenson Tate would have the biggest impact of the day taking home three top five finishes. He won the men's long jump by leaping 7.60 meters and earned fifth place in the 100-meter dash by clocking in 10.70 seconds.
Jaylon Roberts would also earn first place as his time of 47.21 seconds in the 400-meter dash was enough to beat out Damon Cobbs of Prairie View A&M by .18 seconds. Tate and Roberts later teamed up with Antonio Munoz and Cole Brogger for a third place finish in the men's 4x100 relay in which they clocked in 40.82 seconds.
Elsewhere,
Declan Neary became the third winner of LU for the day as he won the 3000m steeplechase with a new personal best of 8:53.05 under his belt, including 65 seconds on the final lap.
George Wheeler earned sixth place in the men's 1500m run by crossing the line with a new personal record of 3:50.23.
Elijah Jackson took home a top five finish in the men's high jump with 1.92m.
On the women's side,
Parl Eelma would place seventh in the long jump with 5.75m. The women's 200m dash saw
Sydne Porter come within .12 seconds of first place as she posted 24.18 seconds to finish second. In her first event of the outdoor season,
Yasmin Austridge made history as she set a new program record for the fastest 800m with 2:09.48 seconds. This would put her third in the event.
Nia Clatworthy took fourth in the women's 1500m recording 4:40.55 seconds. The women's 4x100 relay team of
Kayli Johnson,
Arajanee Jackson,
Brianna Howard, and Porter ran fifth place by clocking in a time of 46.91 seconds.
There were five Cardinals who would earn top-10 finishes in the triple jump. For the women, it was
Arajanee Jackson (5th; 11.83m),
Klinta Blusina (7th; 11.80m), and
Diamond Milton (10th; 11.53m) while
Sean Coley (8th; 14.11m) and
Patrick Wolf (9th; 13.96m) placed for the men.
LU will head out to College Station for the Aggie Invitational next Saturday hosted by Texas A&M University.
