BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University is set to begin its outdoor track and field season as it will head out to the Prairie View A&M Relays Friday. The meet will take place Friday at the PVAMU Track and Field Stadium.
LU will look to build off a strong finish to the indoor season at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships and came away with six medals (four silver, two bronze) while both teams recorded sixth-place finishes. The women scored 53 points and were highlighted by
Ashton Rainey's second-place finish in the 5,000-meter race (16:34.39) and third-place finish in the 3,000m (9:44.98), which was a new personal best.
Ke'Asia Hall earned second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.33m (40-05.50) while
Kyndall Drones took home third in the weight throw (17.09m/56-1).
The men scored 49 points as
Luke Parker took second in the 800m with a school-record time of 1:51.19.
John Sanderson also finished second, but in the men's 60-meter hurdles as he logged in a time of 7.98 seconds. Another school record was broken by freshman
Elias Kraut, who set the heptathlon record of 4.636 points.
The Cardinals will be one of 18 schools competing along with Prairie View, Blinn College, Concordia (Tex.), Dillard, Huston-Tillotson, Jarvis Christian, Little Rock, North American, Paul Quinn, Philander Smith, Ranger CC, Southeastern Oklahoma, Southwestern Christian College, Texas Southern, Victoria College and Wiley.
The field events will start at 10 a.m. with the hammer throw, while the running portion begins at noon with the women's 3,000m steeplechase.
