BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University's outdoor track and field season continues this week as the Cardinals will send a split squad to Austin for the Texas Relays and Nacogdoches for the Stephen F. Austin Carl Kite Invitational. Both meets will start Thursday and run through Saturday.
LU began its outdoor season by winning 12 events and earning 35 top-three finishes at the Prairie View A&M Relays.
Anthony Oliver (46.18 meters/151-06) and
Kyndall Drones (43.48m/142-08) each won the discus while earning first place and breaking school records in the men's hammer throw (59.70m/195-10) and women's shot put (14.82m/48-7.50), respectively. LU swept the top three spots in the women's javelin with
Neelie Schiel in first (42.37m/139-0),
Eloise Duboscq taking second (40.55m/133-0) and Sophia Saldutto finishing third (40.29m/132-2).
Alex Williams III finished on the podium in three events, winning the men's shot put (16.27m/53-04.50), placing second in the hammer throw (56.09m/184-0) and taking third in the discus (44.49m/145-11).
Morgan Louvier would be the first Cardinal to compete in the outdoor pole vault event in 12 years and won with a mark of 3.50m (11-5.75).
On the track circuit,
London Jessie (1:54.66) and
Hannah Roberts (2:16.24) won their 800-meter events.
Ethan Ellis ran his way to the 400m-hurdles title (52.05), while
Anna Eischen was the women's 1,500m winner with a time of 4:44.60. The women's 4x4 relay team of
Aaliyah Booker,
Krystan Bright,
Erial Fontenot and
Kayla Smith teamed up to win their event at 3:48.13.
LU will have 11 athletes participate in the Texas Relays and the first event will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday when Saldutto competes in the women's javelin.
The Carl Kite Invitational will start at 9:15 a.m. Thursday with the heptathlon and decathlon. The women's hammer throw will open the field events at 1 p.m. while the running events start at 6 p.m.
