NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Over the past weekend, members of Lamar's track and field teams competed at the Earl Milner Invitational. Although there were few top five finishes, there were plenty of personal records to go around.
Parl Eelma started things off for LU with a new PR in the 100m hurdles finals. She posted a time of 14.15 seconds that was better than her previous mark of 14.23 in the event. This put her fourth place overall.
Mykayla Mims would also have a new PR with 2:21.82 seconds in the 800-meter event that was good for seventh place. On the men's side, RJ Lane crossed the line in fourth (1:54.80) shattering his previous mark of 1:59.69 by nearly five seconds. Brandon Lantau took home eighth place in the event at 1:55.74 while Cameron Chretien also recorded a new PR at 1:56.96 for 10th.
In spite of the rainy conditions that would take place as the meet continued, Zakell Johnson claimed fifth in the men's 400m hurdles to set a new PR with 57.09 seconds. Kenson Tate continued his freshman campaign with two top five finishes in the meet. First, he took home fourth in the men's 200-meters with a time of 21.53 seconds. Then, he won first in the long jump by setting a new PR with 7.46m.
The triple jump would see two female Cardinals place in the top five. Arajanee Jackson took second with 12.16m while Crisstin Riley took fourth with 11.47m. Diamond Milton (11.03m) and Klinta Blusima (10.98m), making her first return to competition in 13 months, took seventh and eighth respectively in the event.
The relay events saw more strong performances as the women's 4x400m team of Faith Outing (55.4), Sydne Porter (54.2), Adebola Odunlami (57.2), and Chloe Rodriguez (55.3) completed the second best time in program history in the event of 3:42.08 seconds, which was .31 seconds off the record from 2000. They would finished second in the event. Porter would also help the 4x100m team take 46.92 for third place. Meanwhile, the men's 4x400m squad was second with 3:13.44 with Jaylon Roberts contributing a 2nd leg split of 46.3 seconds.
LU will head to College Station next weekend for the Aggie Invitational.
