BEAUMONT, Texas – After playing their second match is less than 24 hours, the Lamar University women's tennis team got back on the road to make the long journey back from Edinburg, Texas in preparation for the short turnaround against McNeese. The non-conference tilt against the Cowgirls will be Big Red's third match in four days.
The Cardinals 2-1 (.667) won their first two matches of the season before falling to Tarleton State Saturday afternoon in Edinburg.
McNeese comes to Beaumont still looking for their first win of the season after opening with a very tough schedule. The Cowgirls are 0-4 after matches against Rice, Houston and a doubleheader against SMU. McNeese has been shutout in all four matches. Monday's match will serve as the team's fifth straight road contest to start the season.
The Cardinals lead the all-time series, 18-11 (.621), a record which includes a 10-4 (.714) mark in Beaumont. The majority of those contest have been in conference play. The epitome of a rivalry, the two teams have split the last 10 matches with the Cardinals gaining the upper hand last season. The Cardinals recorded a 6-1 victory last year just days before the nationwide shutdown due to COVID.
Monday's match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center. Admission is free to the public, but fans are expected to follow social distancing guidelines.
