Cards Travel to Rice

| By:
HOUSTON, Texas – The Lamar University men's tennis team returns to action Sunday when they make the short trip down I-10 to face the Rice Owls. The Cardinals are 0-1 on the year after opening up against one of the nation's toughest teams – No. 15 Baylor. Big Red will now go in search of their first victory of 2021 against a very tough Rice squad.

The Owls are in a similar position to LU also looking for their first win of the season. Rice opened the year with a 5-2 loss at UTSA, followed by a close one-point setback at Trinity. Sunday's match will serve as the home opener for the Owls, who will be playing in a doubleheader. Following the match against Big Red, the Owls will be back on the court to host Prairie View A&M.

Another similarity to the Cardinals, Rice was also limited in their fall season due to COVID. The Owls competed in only one tournament – the ITA Texas Regional Championships. The Owls enter this season looking to bounce back from a tough start to the 2020 partial season. Rice posted a 4-8 (.333) record last season before COVID halted the rest of the year.

The match against Rice is set to begin at 11 a.m. from the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston. Fans can watch the live video stream of the match by clicking here.
