Cardinals Fly a Mile High for Two Matchups

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University men's tennis team (6-10) is headed to the Mile High City - Denver, Colorado - for the next two matches against Cal Poly (3-5) Saturday, Mar. 7 and the University of Denver (10-1) Sunday, Mar. 8.

The Cardinals will be looking to continue their two-match win streak. The Cards beat the University of the Pacific 4-0 Sunday, Mar. 1. LU then battled all the way to a seven-point victory over Valparaiso in a mid-week, home match on Tuesday, Mar. 3. The Cardinals defeated the Crusaders 4-3. Now, the Cardinals will fight to keep the win streak alive.

The Cardinals open the weekend against the Cal Poly Mustangs first. The Mustangs are on their own two-game win streak. They won their last two matches at home versus Loyola Marymount 4-3 and Pacific 4-0. Cal Poly has only played eight matches this season, which means they will have fresh legs. The Cardinals will hope to knock the Mustangs off the mountain in Colorado.

After taking on Cal Poly, the Cardinals will fight against the University of Denver. The Pioneers will be a tough opponent as they have only lost one match all season. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has ranked them 42nd nationally. The Pioneers have won ten matches and lost one, but their only loss came on their home courts. The Cardinals will look to hand the Pioneers their second loss of the year.

When the Mile High battles are over, the Cardinals will come back home for a matchup with Youngstown State Wednesday, Mar. 11 from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
