Cards Look to Defend Nest from Crusaders

| By:

BEAUMONT, Texas – Coming home from a long weekend in California, the Lamar University men's tennis team (5-10) will look to grab their sixth win of the season, and second consecutive victory, when they host Valparaiso Tuesday. The match against the Crusaders (4-4) is slated to begin Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.

Over the past weekend, the Cardinals played in the Pacific Central Valley Championships (PCVC) in Fresno, Calif. During the tournament, the Cards went 1-2 with losses to Fresno State and Nevada. Big Red closed out the PCVC with a 4-0 win over the University of the Pacific Sunday. After recording a strong performance in doubles competition, LU carried that momentum over into the singles picking up three quick wins over the Tigers.

While the Cardinals have played in some tough road matches this season, LU has always made the Thomspon Family Tennis Center tough on opponents. The Cardinals have picked up four of their five wins at home. The Cardinals will look for more of the home court magic Tuesday.

Valparaiso has struggled when on the road this season. Out of their four away matches, the Crusaders have only managed one victory. Valparaiso is looking to recover from a 7-0 loss at Purdue. After a slow start to the season, the Crusaders have bounced back winning two of their past three and four of the past six matches.

After Tuesday's home match, the Cardinals will hit the road again. They will travel to Denver, Colo. to take on Cal Poly Saturday, March 7 and the University of Denver Sunday, Mar. 8.
