BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University men's tennis team will look to get back in the win column Wednesday when they return home to face Youngstown State. The match against the Penguins will serve as the final non-conference tune up before the Cardinals open Southland Conference play.
The Cardinals (6-12) have dropped five of their last seven matches and are coming off a tough road trip to Denver, Colo. On the most recent road swing, the Cardinals dropped decisions to Cal Poly and Denver.
Youngstown State heads to the Golden Triangle in the midst of a roller coaster ride through the early part of the 2020 season. The Penguins (3-5) opened with three victories but have fallen on hard times since. YSU will enter Wednesday's match having dropped five straight and are coming off a 7-0 setback to Western Michigan. The Penguins will have fresh legs with Wednesday's match being their first competition in more than two weeks.
The two teams have met one other time in series history. That match came in 2013 in Youngstown, Ohio which saw the Penguins take a 4-3 decision.
The match against Youngstown State will be the team's final contest three weeks to prepare for the conference opener against UIW. The match against the Southland's other Cardinals will take place Saturday, Mar. 28th in San Antonio.
