D1Baseball Names Correa to Top 30 List

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas - Earning yet another preseason accolade, Lamar University's JC Correa was named one of the Top 30 second basemen in the NCAA by D1Baseball, as announced by the organization on Wednesday. Correa joins just one other SLC infielder on the list, and ranks ahead of student-athletes from Tulane, Arkansas, and Florida Gulf Coast.

Correa's 27th overall ranking means that D1Baseball sees the senior from Santa Isabel, P.R., as a Top 10 percent second baseman, ranking him higher than infielders from 273 other NCAA Division 1 baseball programs.

Nate Fisbeck, who plays at McNeese, ranks 18th overall. In addition to hosting Fisbeck and the Cowboys in a Southland Conference series March 13-15, Correa and the rest of the Cardinals will also face Tulane and 28th-ranked Jonathon Artigues in New Orleans on March 10 and 11.

Correa led his team in batting average, hits, doubles, home runs, and RBIs in 2019 enroute to being picked by the Houston Astros in the 2019 MLB Draft. Correa is a Top 150 NCAA Hitter, a Perfect Game All-SLC team member, and a First Team All-SLC team member. Along with Correa's honors, Anthony Quirion was named All-SLC by Perfect Game and by the conference coaches, and Logan Berlof was also named Second Team All-SLC by the SLC coaches.

The 2020 season begins on Friday, Feb. 14, when the University of Rhode Island comes to Vincent-Beck Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at "The Beck" and on Facebook Live.
