Tennis Looks to Bounce Back

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University men's tennis team (2-6) will look to return to the win column when they continue their current homestand Friday with a match against Oral Roberts (11 a.m.) followed by a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M Sunday. All three matches will be played at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. Big Red has won two of its last three matches but is coming off a 4-1 setback against UT Arlington last time out.

LU vs Oral Roberts, Feb. 14, at 11 a.m.

The Cardinals will play their first of three matches in three days beginning with Oral Roberts University. The Golden Eagles have had a mixed start to the season and are currently 2-4 (.333) overall. ORU recently lost to Southland rivals, Abilene Christian, 7-0. However, their last match saw them rally to a 7-0 triumph against Eastern Illinois. The Red and White will look to bounce back from the loss last season to Oral Roberts and improve upon their 9-1 all-time record against the Golden Eagles.

LU vs Prairie View A&M, Feb 16, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The Cardinals will play their second and third matches of the weekend in a doubleheader against the Panthers. The Panthers have had a difficult start to the season and are currently riding a 13-game losing streak and have failed to take a set off their opponents in their previous three matches. The Cardinals will look to keep PVAMU's struggles going Sunday when they square off in Beaumont. The Cards are 16-1 (.941) all time against Prairie View A&M. Big Red defeated PVAMU, 4-0, last season.

Last time out:

LU vs UT Arlington, L, 4-1

Playing in front of a raucous crowd at the Thompson Family Tennis Center, the Cardinals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but a slow start in singles play wound up being costly as the Cardinals dropped a 4-1 decision to UT Arlington Sunday afternoon. "We did a great job in doubles, but doubles and singles were two different things," said LU head coach Scott Shankles. "In singles, we fell behind on every court right from the beginning."

Following this weekend's action, the Cardinals will hit the road and travel to UT Rio Grande Valley (Feb. 26) followed by a match at Fresno State (Feb. 29).
