BEAUMONT, Texas - Continuing its prestigious streak of sending student-athletes to the postseason, Lamar University's outdoor track & field team will be sending five Cardinals to the NCAA West Preliminaries this year.
Jordan Rowe,
Javon McCray,
Matthew Arnold,
Webster Slaughter, and
Migle Muraskaite will all travel the 2,000 miles to Sacramento, Calif., to compete May 23-25 at Sacramento State University.
Jordan Rowe qualified for the Pre-Lims with his stellar time in the men's 5,000-meters, racing a 14:02.83 in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic on March 28 of this year. He was Second Team All-SLC this year after taking second in the men's 1,500-meters at the SLC Championships.
Matthew Arnold will run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a 2019 personal-best of 8:59.23, also set at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, and he took second in the 3K Steeplechase at the SLC Championships. The final runner will be
Webster Slaughter in the men's 400-meter dash. Slaughter broke his personal record in the event at the Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship with a run of 46.80, taking bronze in the meet and a Third Team All-SLC honor. Rounding out the men's field for Lamar will be
Javon McCray who qualified with a mark of 49' 10", also set at the SLC Championship, where he finished third and took home Third Team All-SLC honors.
Migle Muraskaite will be the lone female student-athlete competing for Lamar at the West Pre-Lims. The sophomore from Vilnius, Lithuania, will don the Cardinal Red in the javelin throw, where she set a new personal best with a throw of 150' 11" and took second in the event at the 92nd Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. Muraskaite was a First Team All-SLC member after winning the women's heptathlon.
