Softball Host Nicholls For Senior Weekend

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University softball team closes out its 2019 home slate on Friday and Saturday when they host Nicholls in Southland Conference action.

Friday night is "Back the Blue" night at the LU Softball Complex with the first pitch set for 5 p.m. For more information on "Back the Blue" game, click here.
 
Saturday, the Cards and Colonels will play a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. Following the doubleheader, Lamar will honor its senior class.
 
Nicholls enters the weekend tied for first place in the SLC standings. LU sits in sixth place, two games out of third place. LU needs one SLC win or an HBU loss to clinch a spot in the SLC Tournament.

Series Record:
9-11 (21st, 22nd and 23rd Meetings)
Last Meeting: April 5, 2018 (10-8, Nicholls)
Nicholls enters the SLC series with Lamar coming off a series win over McNeese. The Colonels took the first two game of the series before dropping the third game of 4-2 to McNeese. Nicholls has won 13 of its last 15 games.

At the plate, the Colonels are led by Kali Clement, who leads the team with a .360 batting average. Samantha Dares is second on the team hitting .341. Clement leads the team with six homeruns, while Kasey Frederick leads the team with 31 RBIs on the season.

In the circle, Megan Landry leads the team with 197.2 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .204 off her. She leads the team with 22wins and has an ERA of 1.63 while striking out 160 batters. Besides Landry, the Colonels have Emily Danehower and Alexis LaBure. Danehower is 4-1 on the season with an ERA of 2.05 in 44.1 innings pitched, while LaBure is 2-7 on the season with a 3.50 ERA in 54 innings pitched.

As a team, the Colonels are hitting .265 with 31 home runs and 45 doubles. They have an on-base percentage of .335 and are 32-for-42 in stolen bases. In the circle, Nicholls has a team ERA of 2.14. Opponents are hitting .235 against the Colonels with 66 extra base hits.
 
LAST TIME OUT: HOUSTON BAPTIST (April 22)
The Lamar University softball team could not overcome a late run as they were defeated, 3-2, by Houston Baptist on Tuesday evening in non-conference action. The Huskies broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the seventh inning on a Cailtyn Brockway double.

Shannon Klaus led the Cards (22-28) with two hits in the contest while Kimberly Mattox, Jade Lewis, Kelly Meeuwsen and Elizabeth Castillo all picked up a hit for LU. Julia Voluntad recorded six strikeouts in the game for the Cards.

What's Next
The Cards conclude the 2019 regular season on May 3 and 4 when they travel to Lake Charles, La. to face rival McNeese in a three-game set. LU and McNeese open its series on Friday, May 3 at 6 p.m. with a single game. The doubleheader is set for Saturday starting at 12 p.m.
