BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University's historic softball season has garnered more national recognition as it finished ranked 25th nationally in the final Softball America Top 25 Mid Major Poll. This marks the first time in program history that LU has ended the season ranked in the top 25 in any poll.
Among LU's big victories this season was an 8-0, five-inning shutout against Texas State, who is ranked sixth sixth, to go along with two wins over Illinois and a come-from-behind victory over Baylor. Big Red is one of two Southland Conference teams in the top 25, along with Southeastern Louisiana, the regular-season conference champions, who landed in 10th.
LU won 34 games, the second-most in program history and the most since 2017. The Cardinals finished as the fifth seed in the conference and made an incredible run through the conference tournament, advancing to the SLC Championship Series where it pushed McNeese to a deciding game.
