Cards Open Five Game Road Trip at LSU

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University softball team opens a five-game road swing when they travel to Baton Rouge, La. to face LSU on Wednesday night at Tiger Park. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

LU heads to Sam Houston State for a three-game set on Friday and Saturday and travel to Texas State on March 27 to conclude the trip. LU's next home contest set for March 29th against Central Arkansas.

The Tigers enter after taking 2-of-3 from No. 7 Florida. In the Tigers last game, they defeated Florida, 3-2, on a walk-off hit by Amanda Sanchez, that scored Aliyah Andrews. LSU is 18-3 this season in games played at Tiger Park.
At the plate, LSU is led by Amanda Sanchez, who leads the team with a .500 batting average. Shelbi Sunseri lead the team with 39 RBIs and 12 home runs on the season. As a team, the Tigers have seven players batting over .300 on the season.

The Lamar University softball team hung a five spot in the bottom of the fifth inning, to come back from a 5-4 deficit to defeat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 9-5, on Saturday afternoon from the LU Softball Complex.
 
The Cardinals improve to 14-15 on the season and 5-1 in Southland Conference action, while the Islanders fall to 4-24 on the season and 1-5 in SLC play. With the 5-1 record the Cards currently sit tied atop of the SLC standings.
 
Prior to the contest, the Cardinals honored Abigail Arias as she threw out the first pitch and became an honorary Cardinal.
 
LU collected 11 hits in the contest and were led by Shannon Klaus, who had three hits. Shaina Amir, Savana Guidry and Taylor Murphy all added two hits each.
 
What's Next
Following the single game at LSU, the Cards head to Huntsville, Texas to face Sam Houston State in SLC action. The Bearkats and Cards will play a doubleheader Friday starting at 4 p.m.
