LAKE CHARLES, La. –
Ariel Flores recorded her sixth homer of the season Saturday, but Lamar University's magical run ended abruptly as it fell, 10-2 in five innings to McNeese in game three of the Southland Conference Series. The Cardinals finish with 34 wins, tied for the second-most in program history.
Flores recorded two of LU's three hits in the contest while
Makenzie Wright added a single of her own.
Cala Wilson drove in LU's second run of the game.
Reagan Smith was tagged with the loss after going two-thirds of an inning.
The Cowgirls jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings. Flores broke up the shutout in the third with her solo homer in the Cardinals' half of the third. Two innings later, Wilson reached base on an error that scored
Gracee Hess to cut the deficit to five. McNeese ended the game in its half of the fifth with three runs.
For their performance throughout the conference tournament,
Isabella Flores, Hess, Smith and
Sicily Windham were each named to the all-SLC Tournament team. This is the first time a Cardinal has been selected to the all-tournament since 2023.
