KATY, Texas – Lamar University senior forward
Josh Nzeakor has been named to the 2019 Southland Conference All-Tournament team announced league officials Saturday evening following the men's championship game.
Nzeakor recorded back-to-back double-doubles to lead the Cardinals in both games, ending the season with three consecutive double-double performances. He averaged 18.5 points and 12.0 rebounds in the Cardinals' two tournament games. He also recorded three steals, blocked a shot and recorded an assist.
A native of Mesquite, Texas, Nzeakor came to LU prior to the start of the 2015-16 academic year. When he arrived, the Cardinals had not been to the conference's postseason tournament in four years. Nzeakor leaves LU having guided Big Red to three-straight Southland postseason appearances.
The Cardinals recorded 20 wins in 2018-19, their first 20-win season since the 2011-12 year. It was also the Cards' third consecutive 19-win season which is the program's longest run of success since the 1982-83 through 1984-85 seasons.
A 2019 second-team All-Southland Conference selection, Nzeakor became the 21
st player in program history to record 1,000 points earlier this season. He also leaves LU ranked among the program's all-time top 10 in rebounds.
