Baseball Postpones Houston Game

BEAUMONT, Texas - Forecasted thunderstorms in the Golden Triangle area have canceled Tuesday's game between Lamar University (4-4) and the University of Houston (4-3).

No makeup date has been set at this time.

The Cards are still on track to host BYU (5-2) on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Lamar Quick Hits

  • Lamar has four triples in eight games this season after collecting just three in all of 2018 and four in all of 2017. If the Cards continue to average a triple every two games they'll finish the year with 28, a new program record.
  • Homers have been a big part of LU's offense this season with an average of one per game. Last season LU hit just 12 all year - an average of one homer every 4.67 games. The Cards need just four more homers this year to match last year's total. If the Cards hold their one per game average that would rank seventh all-time.
  • After not appearing in any of the first four games of the season, Reese Durand has forced his way into the starting lineup. He came into the final game at Tulane in the ninth inning and got a hit in his only at-bat, a triple. He then went 6-for-10 in the Cardinal Classic with a run and an RBI while not striking out a single time.
  • Avery George has started every game this season and is hitting extremely well with a .385 batting average. He's collected 10 hits with three RBIs and six runs scored and he's drawn seven walks while striking out just five times. The sophomore from Humble, Texas, has reached base in 18 consecutive games dating back to last season and is also riding a seven-game hit streak.
  • Cole Coker (.379, 11-for-29), Robin Adames (.323, 10-for-31), Durand (.636, 7-for-11), and George (.385, 10-for-26) are all hitting well over .300 for Lamar and Anthony Quirion (.296, 8-for-27) and Chase Kemp (.286, 4-for-14) are just below that mark and trending upward.
  • Adames came into the season with 195 career hits, just 62 hits away from breaking the Lamar University career hits record. The senior from The Bronx, N.Y., has averaged 65 hits a season in his three previous years at LU and has 10 so far this year, leaving him just 52 hits away.
