COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Lamar University's track & field team wrapped up its 2019 indoor regular season Saturday at the Texas A&M Aggie Twilight. The Cardinals sent a delegation of
Migle Muraskaite,
Parl Eelma,
Paula Sprudzane,
Wreagan Taylor, and
Deja Phillips to the meet and came away with a second and seventh-place finish in the women's long jump and a Top 10 finish in the women's hurdles and women's high jump.
Phillips and Muraskaite competed in the women's long jump and both had significant showings for Lamar. Muraskaite hit a mark of 17' 2.75" to finish seventh among over 20 competitors, and Phillips hit a mark of 19' 4.25" in the pre-lims to secure a second place finish without jumping again in the finals.
Muraskaite had a busy day for the Cards - she also competed in the women's hgih jump where she finished 10th, hitting a mark of 5' 1.75", and she finished 14th in the pre-lims of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.43.
Eelma competed in two events for Lamar and had Top 10 finishes in both - the junior from Tallinn, Estonia, won her heat in the 60-meter hurdles pre-lims with a time of 8.91, the sixth-best time of the pre-lims, and tied for seventh in the women's high jump when she passed the 5' 1.75" mark.
Taylor finished 10th in the pre-lims of the women's 60-meter hurdles and just barely missed qualifying for the finals with a time of 8.959, and Sprudzane ran an 8.93 in the pre-lims and an 8.93 again in the finals, taking sixth overall.
The Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship will take place next Sunday and Monday in Birmingham, Ala.
