BEAUMONT, Texas – The future of the Lamar University men's tennis program got a little brighter Thursday evening with the addition of Nederland, Texas standout Brandon Do announced head coach Scott Shankles. One of the state's top players becomes the Cardinals first signee of the early signing period.
 
"We're very excited about the addition of Brandon Do," said Shankles. "He is a very talented player who possesses quickness around the net. He's a guy who plays with high intensity throughout the match and is a great counter puncher.
 
"In addition to his success on the court, he is just as successful in the classroom. He brings a strong academic background with him to campus and has plans of going to dental school. Brandon is a great recruit from an athletic and academic standpoint,"
 
Do's name was thrust into the spotlight a year ago when he dominated play at the Texas Class 5A level to bring a state championship back to Nederland. Even more impressive than the all-state selection's title was how he got to the title. Not only did he square off against the state's best, in the days leading up to the match he battled a virus which hampered his practice schedule. Do managed to fight through everything to defeat Red Oak's Jared Wilson, 6-1, 6-4, in straight sets.
 
Do's success is no surprise to those following his career. As a sophomore at Class 6A Fort Bend High School, Do advanced to the regional level finishing third overall.
 
"We've been blessed to have several athletes from the Golden Triangle," said Shankles. "It's always great when you can sign high-caliber student-athletes from you own backyard. He is a great fit for our team."
 
Do's success during his junior season has him considered as a four-star recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net. Ranked among the top 10 recruits in the state of Texas, Do is a Super Championship level player with one more season of high school tennis remaining before he joins the Cardinals roster for the 2020-21 season.
