Cardinals Qualify for CIT

BEAUMONT, Texas – For the second consecutive season, the Lamar University men's basketball team (19-13) has qualified for the CollegeInsider.com Tournament announced CIT officials Sunday evening.
 
The Cardinals are one of 20 teams named to the postseason tournament field. The field also includes two other Southland schools in Abilene Christian and Sam Houston State.
 
"The NCAA tournament was obviously the goal for Lamar University – and it always will be, but we are excited to have the opportunity to continue playing in the postseason," said LU head coach Tic Price. "The Southland tournament didn't go the way we wanted but I'm happy our guys get another chance to play basketball. I'm really excited for our seniors who have worked very hard to change the culture of Lamar University basketball."
 
The rest of the tournament field includes Central Michigan, Fort Wayne, Drake, North Carolina A&T, Liberty, Hartford, San Diego, St. Francis (Pa.), Illinois-Chicago, Niagara, Eastern Michigan and UTSA.
 
The Cardinals make their way to a second consecutive postseason bid after finishing tied for fifth in the Southland Conference with a 19-12 regular season record and an 11-7 conference mark. The Cardinals had won four straight, and six of seven, heading into the regular-season finale at McNeese but the Cardinals dropped that game and then struggled in the opening-round of the of the conference tournament falling to Central Arkansas.
 
Potential matchups and game dates have not been made official.
