Sam Dumez and
Cody Banach of Lamar University are tied for 21
st place after the first day of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech on Monday.
Dumez and Banach each stand at 1-over-par 145 after two rounds on the par-72, 7,070-yard layout at the Squire Creek Country Club. Dumez, who had a 2-over-par 74 in Monday's morning round, bounced back with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon. Banach paced the Cardinals with a 2-under 70 in the morning before carding a 3-over 75 in the second round. Banach had four birdies and two bogeys in the morning. Dumez was the picture of consistency in his afternoon round, finishing the session with 15 pars, two birdies and just one bogey.
As a team, the Cardinals are ninth in the 14-team field at 13-over 589. South Florida leads with a two-round total of 17-under 559, 10 strokes ahead of UTSA and Central Arkansas, and 11 shots better than Stephen F. Austin.
Lewis George of Central Arkansas is five strokes ahead of the field at 11-under-par 133 after rounds of 65 and 68 on Monday. Angelo Leyvani of Stephen F. Austin is second in the 80-player field at 6-under-par 138 after posting rounds of 72 and 66. The 66 was the low round of the day.
Nikolai Schaffrath of the Cardinals is tied for 36
th 4-over-par 148 after rounds of 73 and 75 in his LU debut.
Eason Wang is tied for 59
th at 152, while
Juho Kurikka made his LU debut with two rounds of 77 to sit in a tie for 67
th at 154. LU's
Clay McCrory, competing as an individual, bounced back with a 70 in the afternoon after a 78 in the morning to join the tie for 36
th place at 148.
"We were sloppy today. We had a lot of silly errors," LU coach
Jessie Mudd said. "We knew we were going to come into this event rusty, and it showed. This course is too demanding around and on the greens to not have your A-game. We will go out and compete again on Tuesday, and come out with a better outcome."
The tournament concludes with a single round on Tuesday.
