BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University men's tennis team returns to action Friday when they travel to Mobile, Ala., to take on South Carolina-Upstate. The match will be No. 3 of a six match road swing (it was originally schedule as a seven-match road trip until the second match of a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M was cancelled to due to the rain).
The Cardinals enter the week with a 7-5 (.583) overall record, and have won three of their past four matches with the lone setback during that stretch coming at LSU, 5-2. The Red and White are coming off a shutout victory at Prairie View A&M less than a week ago.
The Spartans head to Alabama looking to right the ship after a 3-8 (.273) start to the 2017 season. USC-Upstate has dropped three straight and six of its last seven heading into the Friday morning showdown. The Spartans' lone victory during that stretch was a three-point victory over Gardner-Webb.
Friday's match will be the third meeting between the two schools on the court with each team grabbing one victory. The Spartans grabbed the upper hand with a one-point victory in 2014. Big Red followed with a shutout victory in 2015. Both of the previous two meetings have been away from Beaumont.
Following the match against the Spartans, LU will hit the road for its second trip to the West Coast this season. The Cardinals will close out the road swing with dates against Loyola Marymount, Utah and UC Irvine before returning to the Golden Triangle.
Saturday's match is slated to begin at 10 a.m. from Mobile, Ala.
