BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University junior
Leon Nickel and sophomore
Maxwell Lindstedt took the first victory of the day winning their match at No. 1 doubles, but Big Red struggled to follow up with wins on any of the remaining courts dropping a 4-0 decision to UIW Monday in the semifinals of the Southland Conference Championships at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Complex.
The loss drops Lamar to 12-14 (.462) on the season.
LU's top duo of Nickel and Lindstedt jumped out to an early lead and never looked back defeating UIW's Marcel Miralles and Santiago Flyckt, 6-2. The Cardinals duo was the first match off the court but unfortunately, UIW managed to snag the doubles point with wins at courts 2 and 3.
UIW did not surrender the momentum in singles competition with wins at Nos. 1, 4 and 5, respectively for the overall win. Lamar appeared headed for a victory on court 6 singles as sophomore
Lukas Hamacher was up on UIW's Ian Uraga, 6-3, 6-5, when his match was halted.
