ABILENE - All but one singles match finished in straight sets, and the Lamar men's tennis team won all five matches in its 6-1 win over Abilene Christian at the Eager Tennis Pavilion on Sunday in Southland Conference action.
The Cardinals improved to 11-10 on the year and 2-1 in Southland Conference play, and ACU fell to 9-16 overall and 1-4 in league action.
After a doubles point win, Lamar's Nikita Lis took court one on a 6-2, 6-3 win over Guilherme Gesser, and pushed his singles action record to 11-8 in 2015. He teamed with Jeandre Hoogenboezem to lock up the doubles point on No. 1, 8-5, over Nico Agritelley and Gesser.
That duo kept their record perfect at 8-0.
Hoogenboezem was the only singles loss- from line three- and that went to a three-set super tiebreak. He won the first set 6-3 and dropped the second to Agritelley 6-4. The clinching set went to Agritelley 10-4.
Michael Feucht took court two 6-1, 6-3 over Jason Proctor, and Benny Schweizer claimed a 6-1, 6-3 position four win over Henry Adams. Both improved their team-leading records to 13-7. The two are also a doubles pair, and went unfinished.
It was Schweizer's third singles win in a row.
Mikko Rajamaki won 6-3, 6-2 over Paul Domanski on line five. The senior improved his singles mark to 7-6. He and Juuso Laitinen gave Lamar the early advantage in the doubles point after an 8-3 win over Domanski and Marco Bensley on No. 3.
Laitinen took position six with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bensley in solo paly, and pushed his regular season mark to 9-7. As a team, Rajamaki and Laitinen are 4-3.
The Cardinals finish their road trip at Nicholls on Friday at 2 o'clock. That march is the last road match of the regular season for LU, which faces New Orleans at the Thompson Family Tennis Center on April 19.
