SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Lamar men's tennis team rebounded from a 5-2 loss to Wofford in the first match of the day with a 7-0 win over South Carolina-Upstate in the nightcap on Sunday in a road doubleheader of non-conference play.
In the second game, the Jeandre Hoogneboezem, who won both of his singles matches and doubles matches on the day, teamed with Nikita Lis to clinch the doubles point for Lamar with an 8-5 win over Ramon Simonetti and Rajanvir Dharni on court one.
Michael Feucht and Benny Schweizer took the first doubles game on line two with an 8-7 win over Viktor Selander and Felix Ewers. Matt Bennion and Ignacio Garrido tied the doubles point with an 8-6 win over Trey Crysel and Steven McMullan.
Hoogenboezem made it 2-0 with a court four win over Ewers, 6-2, 6-4. Schweizer, who also won both of his singles matches on the day, improved the advantage to 3-0 with a 7-6, 3-1 win over Jamie Yates, who ended on an injury forfeit.
The match was clinched on court two with Feucht's win over Selander 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Lis earned a 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 win in position one over Ramon Simonetti. Juuso Laitinen pushed the score to 6-0 with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Ignacio Garrido on line five.
The match wrapped up with Mikko Rajamaki's win on court six over Bennion, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6.
Hoogenboezem took his match in game one of Wofford's Parks Schoen. 6-3, 6-4 on court four, and LU's other point was from was Schweizer's win over Walker Heffron 7-6, 7-5 on court three. Hoogenboezem and Lis teamed for Lamar's lone doubles game from court one over Rob Galloway and Heffron, 7-5.
Trevor Gotkowski and Haris Poric defeated Feucht and Schweizer 7-5 and Rajamaki and Laitinen fell to David Sklar and Thompson, 6-4. In singles action, Lis fell to Galloway on court one 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 and Feucht to Poric, 7-6, 7-5. On line five, Sklar downed Laitnen 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 and McMullan fell to Trevor Gotkowski 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 in position six.
Lamar continues its road trip with Presbyterian on Monday at 2 o'clock. After the East Coast road trip, the Cardinals will play two matches in Arlington against Oral Roberts and UT-Arlington on Saturday and Sunday.
